All of the parts are marked with Remington name or logo. It does not have smooth polished steel on the receiver. Have a friend selling a Wingmaster and we started doing some research on when it was manufactured. The serial number on the receiver is CC92294C. The left side of the receiver closest to the stock has the serial number. The left side of the receiver closest to the barrel says Remington 870. There is an F stamped into the bottom of the barrel close to the receiver. Others can be had in satin with chamberings ranging from 12, 20, and 28 gauge to. 2 3/4” and 3”*** (top line) 3 1/2” only with Super Mag receiver (bottom line) on the left, I do not see a barrel code anywhere. This 12-gauge 870 Wingmaster boasts hi-gloss finish on the wood and blued metal parts. The only barrel markings are the traditional Remington Arms Company Ilions, NY on the right and ***(star) 12 GA. 2 3/4 and 3 (top line) 3 1/2 only with Super Mag receiver (bottom line) on the left, I. The only barrel markings are the traditional Remington Arms Company Ilions, NY on the right and (star) 12 GA. They resumed stamping the date code on the barrel on 10/1/01.I recently purchased a used 870 12 ga with a 26” barrel. I recently purchased a used 870 12 ga with a 26 barrel. They continued to mark the date code on the end flap of the shipping box. (*) On 8/9/99, stopped stamping the barrels with the date code. One needs to be sure that the barrel is original to the gun before trusting the Barrel Code listing, above. Using these barrel codes to date a shotgun is somewhat unreliable, as shotgun barrels are often interchanged at random. Using barrel codes (such as those listed above) to date the manufacture are reliable on Remington rifles, as the company rarely changed barrels on a customer's rifle. So the barrel code indicates a manufacturer date of January 1972. You receiver serial number closely matches the 1972 date so that is the correct year as your gun is obviously older then a 2002 model. The 870 did not exist in 1928 so that is not it. K - 1941 L - 1942 MM - 1943 NN - 1944 PP - 1945 Where can I find the serial number on my Remington 870 Common locations include the receiver, barrel, or left side of the barrel extension. That has only a receiver an and no date code or number on the barrel. I have a 1954 production, large frame 20 ga. From 51 to early 54 when Remington began making the 20 ga on its own frame the only numbers were on the barrels. T - 1926 U - 1927 W - 1928 X - 1929 Y - 1930 For a long time Remington 870s serial numbers were located on the barrel but not the receiver. O - Jul W - Aug D - Sep E - Oct R - Nov X - Dec Serial Numbers by date (factory record book)ī - Jan L - Feb A - Mar C - Apr K - May P - Jun The following letters correspond to the months of the year, for example B=January, L= February and so on:ī - L - A - C - K - P - O - W - D - E - R - X Remingtons manufactured after 1921 have a code located on the left side of the barrel near the frame that identifies the year and month of manufacture. Remingtion firearms manufactured after 1921 The following serial number information is for OK, I was able to copy and paste.here it is
